Linkedin has the reputation of being the social network that someone joins every 2 seconds to promote their brand, expand their professional network, generate leads, and explore employment or partnership opportunities. There is no doubt that Linkedin is an essential online network to be active on.

According to, Approximately 82% of companies utilize LinkedIn solely for business reasons; It is important to follow LinkedIn best practices to improve your LinkedIn profile.

How you use your LinkedIn profile can make all the difference between increasing profile views and converting those views into generated leads, be they clients, job vacancies, or partnerships.
With this in mind, below you will find essential tips on how to create an outstanding LinkedIn profile with optimum functionality, how to use your LinkedIn profile to increase profile views and generate leads, and how To Improve Your LinkedIn Profile.

1. Header Image

Your header image is a strong visual that you can use to display your personal brand, showcase your company, or leave a first impression of who you may be. Remember that visuals speak louder than words. The header image can be with the following dimensions: 1400 x 425 pixels, JPEG, PNG, GIF format, and under 4MB in size.

2. Headline

Stand out and be different. Your headline doesn't necessarily have to be your job title, company, or industry. Be unique and use that space to clearly highlight your specialty, value proposition, and your power statement. Why you.

3. Profile Photo

You want your profile photo to scream out what you see is what you get. It’s a digital, visual introduction to those who view your profile. You want to use a recent photo of you that is simple and professional, and more importantly, gives off an impression of who you are.

So, for example, if you are in the IT or media industry, no need to have your photo feature you in a suit. It is not necessary. On the other hand, if you are an executive banker or lawyer, you don't want your photo to be of you in shorts on the beach. It is widespread now in the digital world to do business online with someone you have never met face-to-face. The only image you have of them in your mind is that of every photo.

4. Summary

The summary about yourself on your profile is the gateway to your profile’s search engine optimization (SEO). It is also your space to show your uniqueness, specialty, and qualifications, setting you apart from the competition.

In addition, this summary is your first impression with anyone who sees your profile. Make sure to include your elevator pitch, why you are a strong candidate or partner, and your aspirations as a professional. Please keep it simple, and don't forget to put in your keywords for SEO. Using keywords is how your profile will perform in search.

To get ranked higher in search results, try and include keywords in these areas:

  • Current & Previous Experiences
  • Website URL
  • Summary
  • Work Experiences
  • Skills & Endorsements

5. Become An Author

LinkedIn encourages users to write and publish their work on the platform through Pulse. This is a great way to add your input into your industry by providing informative content related to industry trends, research, and information, positing you as an industry leader, or simply showing off your skills as a writer.

It’s great for exposure. You also have the option to feed your blog into your LinkedIn profile. The blog will then appear in your profile and will update each time a new post is added.

6. Skills & Endorsements

The endorsements feature allows users to endorse your skills listed in the Skill & Expertise block. It is optimum to have a maximum of 5 skills. The reason behind this is the fact that specialization is the key to success.

You may develop as someone general in everything if you have too many skills - not a shining star in specific skills, making you specialized.

7. Recommendations

A recommendation is different from an endorsement. They go under each position under your experience. A recommendation can be from colleagues, clients, vendors, or senior management. No personal relatives or friends. Only people you have worked with 😉.

8. Website Links

LinkedIn gives you the space to enter your personal website. Usually, people enter the URL. Now the thing is, it may be a clever, unique, and original idea to type in a phrase or description that is eye-catchy.

So, for example, instead of typing in, a Golf Products Distributor, you could enter the Largest Range of Golfing Products Online. This text will then be linked to the URL of the business. This may encourage people visiting your profile to click on the link and know more about your work or who you are.

I hope you find this information helpful. Please give it a go and let me know your feedback. I would love to hear your comments.
